Utility Our utility building system has been developed to be used in both large and small spaces
In Amstelveen and Schiphol Airport, we installed new offices for Connexxion
Account Manager Eric Koenraads (VDL De Meeuw): “It is a great example of the strength of VDL De Meeuw; the buildings can remain in place, but can also be relocated if needed.” Additionally, an office previously used in Amersfoort has been installed in Haarlem.
Connexxion
Connexxion’s new offices and depots will accommodate approximately 380 people
This mainly concerns drivers who pick up and park their buses here and office staff who work in the new regional office.
Two projects running parallel
“It’s actually about two projects that run parallel to each other,” Koenraads explains. “We started moving the building in Amersfoort at the beginning of 2017. This building was completely revised and repositioned in Haarlem. Around the same time, Connexxion won the tender for providing bus transport in Amstelland-Meerlanden (AML).” As a result, VDL De Meeuw was asked by Marc Pruis, facility coordinator at Connexxion, to also come up with a concept for the regional offices in Amstelveen and Schiphol.
“The beautiful concept of VDL De Meeuw, with its identical appearance, naturally also played a role in our choice.”

The project at Schiphol had a few challenges. “Our location at Schiphol is a special location because it is right next to the runway,” says Pruis. “Of course, there are noise requirements for that. In addition, we had to start building quickly and VDL De Meeuw dared to take on the challenge and offered a good price. Their beautiful concept with the same appearance also played a role in our choice for this construction company.”
A custom office
VDL De Meeuw can deliver a total package if the customer requests it. Koenraads: “We can create something beautiful in a place where there is absolutely nothing, and during the project, together with the customer, come up with solutions for issues that come along the way. In addition, we of course provide the figures and calculations that the customer needs for permits, and if desired, we also apply for the permits. For example, we also provided the upholstery and furnishing of the offices for Connexxion.”
From the outside, there is little difference between modular buildings and traditional structures. In fact, it is actually impossible to distinguish between the appearance of modular flexible housing and traditional real estate. More and more architects are approaching VDL De Meeuw about flexible housing developments. Flexible housing and traditional real estate have to comply with the same requirements. In other words, both comply with the Dutch Environment Buildings Decree (Bbl).
The modules that come together to form the final building are produced in a controlled environment. This ensures a safe working environment with a high level of control over quality and minimal impact on the production process due to weather. This in turn prevents delays and failure costs, and increases control over the overall project. Speed and quality go hand in hand here.
After production, the modules are transported to the site. Once on site, these modules are connected to each other, to the electricity grid, to the sewerage, and so on, and the interior is finished according to the specifications agreed upon. At that point, the building is then commissioned and modified in the future according to any changing requirements.
