A new Ronald McDonald House with an atmosphere of home

Due to the (re)construction plans of the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital (ETZ) in Tilburg, we created a temporary Ronald McDonald House. A comfortable and homely environment for the families of children with long-term illnesses.

Sustainable and flexible solution

Due to the merger of the St. Elisabeth and TweeSteden hospitals, several relocation and reconstruction plans were drawn up. This included a major new development project at the site of the former Ronald McDonald House. As this building had to be vacated and moved to the front of the hospital building, the ETZ was looking for a temporary solution. As was the case with the two outpatient clinics, our modular solution provided the answer here as well.

A new home close to the hospital

A new home close to the hospital

A calming, supportive environment was the main concept behind the new Ronald McDonald House. With its spacious corridors, an attractive garden and well-equipped common areas, the building offers guests a warm welcome. Each guesthouse has separate sleeping and living areas, giving families a nice private place with the feeling of home.

A focus on well-being and comfort

Willeke van Seeters, Manager of the Ronald McDonald House Midwest Brabant, stressed the importance of a welcoming environment. “It is crucial for our guests to feel safe and welcome here, so they can focus on what matters most: their sick child.” The building exudes a warm atmosphere that guests can greatly appreciate.

From the outside, there is little difference between modular buildings and traditional structures. In fact, it is actually impossible to distinguish between the appearance of modular flexible housing and traditional real estate. More and more architects are approaching VDL De Meeuw about flexible housing developments. Flexible housing and traditional real estate have to comply with the same requirements. In other words, both comply with the Dutch Environment Buildings Decree (Bbl).

The modules that come together to form the final building are produced in a controlled environment. This ensures a safe working environment with a high level of control over quality and minimal impact on the production process due to weather. This in turn prevents delays and failure costs, and increases control over the overall project. Speed and quality go hand in hand here.

After production, the modules are transported to the site. Once on site, these modules are connected to each other, to the electricity grid, to the sewerage, and so on, and the interior is finished according to the specifications agreed upon. At that point, the building is then commissioned and modified in the future according to any changing requirements.
